We did the recording for Rootsfreeway, RTE Radio One programme, last Friday 19th and it was a great night. We met with Niall Toner and his production team, Aidan and Louise, faboulous people. Enthusiastic and full of encouragement. Niall is not only a fantastic musician but also a gem of a person to whom we owe our first national radio airplay shortly after we brought out our debut album ‘Live at The Strand’. Fair play to you Niall for believing on us.
We also met The Carter Brothers, Danny and Tim, along with Ross, their bass player. They’re tremendous musicians too. After finishing recording our own show, we managed to relax and listen to their superb performance. Highly recommended. If you’re in Ireland and you have the chance, go and see them next Saturday 27th Sep in Longford at the Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival. We ended up doing a piece together at the very end of their concert, an old Carter Family song untitled ‘Will the Circle Be Unbroken’. Class. You can listen to the whole show by clicking here.
And finally keep an ear on RTE One to listen to our NoCrows performance on Monday 29th September, from 9 to 10 pm Irish Time, 10 to 11 pm CET. If you’re outside of Ireland, you’ll still be able to listen to the gig. Watch out for the RTE Rootsfreeway web site and you’ll manage to catch up with us.
NoCrows will be playing a very special concert as part of the Golf Classic Gala Dinner in the Radisson Hotel in Ballincar, Sligo on Wed 17 th Sep. This is a fundraiser event for the local Hospice in Sligo . The concert will start around 9.30 pm, after the dinner.
Tickets for this concert -which will include the dinner- can be booked through Margaret at the Radisson Hotel by ringing +353 719 140008 or by emailing info.sligo@radissonsas.com
We are just back from Palma . We met up with old friends and made few more too. We did three shows including a stormer with Dervish replete with a big jamboree finale and several sessions along the way too.
The big news for us now is our forthcoming show for RTE (Irish Radio). We will be playing live at RTE Radio studios in Donnybrook, Dublin on Fri week, 19th Sep at 8 pm , along with the Carter Brothers, for a special of RTE’s Roots Freeway, to be broadcast on Tues, 23 rd Sept and Mon, 29 th Sept.
There will be a live audience in studio, so if you would like to be part of it, or to find out more info about the concert, click on this link http://www.rte.ie/radio1/rootsfreeway/ or just mail rootsfreeway@rte.ie with your name, address, phone number and number of tickets required.. The maximum number allocated per person will be four. Tickets will be distributed on a, “First come, first served,” basis.
This is a wee blurb about the RTE show:
As part of the, “Culture Night,” festival which is taking place all over Dublin on Friday the 19th of September, “Roots Freeway,” will host a very special live concert in Studio 1 from 8p.m. Playing at the concert will be, ” NoCrows ,” a Sligo band with a unique blend of Irish traditional, classical and world music, and the Carter Brothers from Nashville, with an exciting mixture of rockabilly, bluegrass and newgrass!
This is the second in the live series of, “Roots Freeway,” concerts. The first concert received hugely positive feedback, and demand for tickets (which are free) was overwhelming. The concert will be transmitted in two parts; On Tuesday the 23rd and on Monday the 29th, RTE Radio One, 9pm .
Host for the night will be Niall Toner, excellent musician himself, who presents the best of roots, country music, bluegrass, country rock, western swing, Cajun and hardcore mountain music.
We might see you there.
